Quick Answer
The best vibe coding tools in 2026 fall into two groups. If you do not want to touch code, start with an app builder: Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0, Base44 or Google AI Studio's Build mode turn a chat into a hosted app. If you want to own and edit the code, use a coding agent such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or Devin Desktop (the new name for Windsurf). All of them can be tried free except Claude Code, which is not in Claude's Free plan. The cheapest paid plans run from $8 to $30 a month, and Google bills by use instead. Whichever you pick, checking who can read your users' data is still your job.
The App Builders: Chat In, Hosted App Out
App builders write the code, run it and give you a live address. Prices and limits below come from each vendor's own pricing page or docs, checked on 24 October 2026.
| Tool | What it is | Free plan | Paid from | Hosted by default at | Check yourself |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lovable | Builds and deploys web apps from chat | 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month; "Edit with Lovable" badge | Pro $25/month, or $21/month billed yearly (100 credits) | yourname.lovable.app | Free cannot edit or download code inside Lovable; the Deep scan does not run automatically |
| Bolt | AI website and app builder | 1M tokens a month, 300K a day; hosting included; "Made in Bolt" badge | Pro $18/month billed yearly ($216 a year) | A random name on bolt.host | The full security audit is paid plans only; Free gets the database check |
| Replit | Describe an app in plain words, then build and publish it | Daily Agent credits up to a monthly cap; 1 published app; "Made with Replit" badge | Core $20/month, or $18/month billed yearly | yourname.replit.app | The free published app goes down after 30 days |
| v0 | Vercel's AI agent for code and full-stack apps | 7 messages a day; deploy to Vercel; GitHub sync | Plus $30 per user a month | A vercel.app address | Anything prefixed NEXT_PUBLIC_ reaches the browser, so keep keys out of it |
| Base44 | Builds apps with a backend, database and sign-in | 25 message credits and 100 integration credits a month; up to 5 apps; "Edit with Base44" badge | Starter $16/month billed yearly | yourname.base44.app | Its free scan covers 8 areas, but code vulnerability scanning needs Builder or higher |
| Google AI Studio (Build mode) | Google's prompt-to-app builder for apps that use Gemini | AI Studio itself is free of charge; new builders deploy their first two apps at no cost, no card | Pay as you go for paid models and Cloud Run: see pricing | A Cloud Run address on run.app | People you share the app with can see and fork its code, and it uses your API key for every user |

Bolt and Base44 show yearly prices, and Base44 says yearly billing saves 20%. Lovable warns that apps with significant traffic may cost credits beyond the included hosting grant.
Free badges are how people spot a builder's work (see how to tell if a website is vibe coded). For the code each builder generates, see our guides for Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Replit.
The Coding Agents: Your Code, Your Host
Coding agents work on code in your editor, terminal or repository. None of these pricing pages lists app hosting, so you pick the host. Checked on 24 October 2026:
| Tool | What it is | Free plan | Paid from | Hosted by default at | Check yourself |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cursor | A coding agent you install on your computer, now part of The X Subscription | Limited agent and chat requests | Plus $8/month (no third-party models); Premium $30/month adds them | No app hosting listed; Origin, on Premium, is a git forge for your code | Third-party models are billed on top, at API list price, from prepaid credit |
| Claude Code | Anthropic's coding agent for the terminal, IDE, desktop app and browser | Not in Claude's Free plan | Claude Pro $20/month, or $17/month billed yearly | No app hosting listed: it edits your code and runs commands | Where you deploy, and everything about that server |
| GitHub Copilot | AI assistant in GitHub, editors and IDEs, and the command line | Limited chat and agent usage, including agent mode | Pro $10/month | No app hosting listed | Free cannot buy extra AI credits when you run out |
| Devin Desktop (was Windsurf) | The same editor as Windsurf, renamed on 2 June 2026 | A light quota for agents, limited models, unlimited Tab completions | Pro $20/month | No app hosting listed | Free has limited model choice |

Two changes to know about. Cursor is now sold as part of the X Subscription, one plan for Grok, Cursor and X, though earlier subscribers keep their legacy Cursor plan. Windsurf became Devin Desktop on 2 June 2026, with plans and pricing unchanged. Building with Cursor? See common security issues in Cursor-generated code.
Free Vibe Coding Tools: What Free Really Gets You
Every free plan here has limits, and they differ in ways that matter for a real launch:
- Google AI Studio: Google says AI Studio use is free of charge in all available regions, and new builders can deploy their first two apps at no cost. Paid models and Cloud Run usage can still cost money.
- Usage caps: v0 Free allows 7 messages a day, Bolt 300K tokens a day, Lovable 30 build credits a month and Base44 25 message credits a month.
- A time limit: Replit's one free published app goes down after 30 days. Fine for a demo, not for customers.
- Coding agents: Cursor, Copilot and Devin Desktop have free tiers with limited usage. Claude Code is not in Claude's Free plan.
Lovable, Bolt, Replit and Base44 also keep their badge on free sites, and Lovable, Bolt and Base44 put custom domains on paid plans. If you plan to charge people, budget for the first paid tier.
How to Choose
Start from what you want to own, not from the feature list:
- You never want to see code. Pick an app builder, then check what its first paid plan adds: your own domain, badge removal, more credits.
- You want the code to be yours. Use a coding agent, or a builder that syncs to GitHub. Lovable Free includes Git sync, though editing or downloading code inside Lovable starts at Pro. v0 Free syncs with GitHub, and AI Studio offers GitHub sync or a ZIP download.
- You want a predictable bill. Watch for usage on top of the plan: Cursor bills third-party models at API list price, Google bills Cloud Run by use, and Lovable can charge credits for busy apps.
- You already pay for one. Claude Pro includes Claude Code.
You can also use both: a builder for the first version, then a coding agent on the synced repository.
What the Built-In Checks Cover, and What Stays Yours
Several builders now run their own security checks:
- Lovable runs a Quick scan every time you publish: database access rules, npm dependencies and MCP servers left open without sign-in. Its Deep scan reads your code for access control and leaked secrets, but does not run automatically.
- v0 says all generated code gets security analysis before it runs, and it warns about
NEXT_PUBLIC_variables. - Bolt checks database rules on all plans. Its full project audit (access, sign-in, input, keys) is for paid plans.
- Replit always runs a security scan before publishing.
- Base44 scans on every plan, including exposed secrets and security header recommendations.
The vendors are also clear about who is responsible. Base44's docs say "You are responsible for your app's security." Lovable says its scans "do not replace a thorough security review." Google says the owner is "responsible for its behavior and all data it handles." With a coding agent, the server settings are yours too, because you pick the host.
Three checks are worth doing yourself, whichever tool built the app:
- Access rules. Sign up as a second user and try to open the first user's records. If you can, so can anyone.
- Secrets in the browser. Lovable's docs explain that anything prefixed
VITE_is built into the browser bundle, and v0's say the same ofNEXT_PUBLIC_. Keep secret keys in server functions. - Headers. Check what your live site actually sends.
// BAD: browser code. VITE_ values ship in the bundle anyone can download
const stripe = new Stripe(import.meta.env.VITE_STRIPE_SECRET_KEY);
// GOOD: server code (an edge or API function). The key never reaches the browser
const stripe = new Stripe(process.env.STRIPE_SECRET_KEY);
# See which security headers your live site sends
curl -sI https://yourapp.example.com | grep -iE "strict-transport-security|content-security-policy|x-frame-options|x-content-type-options"
Tools like VibeDoctor's Vibe Check (vibedoctor.io) automatically scan your repository and your live site, whichever tool built them: secrets, dependency CVEs, security headers, SSL and console errors, with specific file paths and line numbers. Your agent can call it over MCP from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex. Free to sign up.
FAQ
What is the Google vibe coding tool?
Google AI Studio's Build mode. Google's docs say it turns a prompt into a full-stack web app or a native Android app. Our Google AI Studio vibe coding guide covers what to check before you publish, including how your Gemini API key is used.
What is the best vibe coding tool for beginners?
If you do not want to read code, an app builder: Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0, Base44 or Google AI Studio's Build mode. Each hosts the app for you. Compare free allowances, then what the first paid plan adds.
Are there free vibe coding tools?
Yes. Every builder here can be used free, and Google says AI Studio use is free of charge. Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Devin Desktop have limited free tiers. Claude Code is the exception: it is not in Claude's Free plan.
What is the best AI for vibe coding?
There is no single winner, and the models you get depend on the plan. Cursor's $8 Plus plan runs Cursor's own models (Grok and Composer), with third-party models on Premium and above. Devin Desktop's Pro plan includes models from OpenAI, Claude, Gemini and SpaceXAI. Try two tools on the same small project first.
Is Windsurf still available?
Under a new name. Windsurf became Devin Desktop on 2 June 2026, and windsurf.com now redirects to devin.ai. Existing plans keep working, and Pro costs $20 a month, checked on 24 October 2026.
Do vibe coding tools check security for me?
Partly. Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0 and Base44 document built-in checks, but Lovable's Deep scan does not run automatically and Bolt's full audit is for paid plans. Check access rules, browser secrets and headers yourself before launch.
