Vibe Story: your app, explained in plain English

When a scan finishes, Vibe Story walks you through what your app does, one function at a time, in your code's own words.

Vibe Story playing a sample app's checkout, one step at a time

In short

Vibe Story reads your app back to you. It opens a part of your app, like checkout or sign-in, and plays its key functions as steps. Each step has a plain-English line taken from the comments in your code, plus the function name and its file and line.

How it works

Vibe Story picks a part of your app and walks its key functions in order. For each step:

  • the headline is the comment written just above the function;
  • the detail is the function's own inline comments, in order;
  • the function name, file and line link to the real code.

When a function has no comment, Vibe Story turns its name into words (getUserById becomes "get user by id") and says so, so you always know which lines are yours.

No language model writes the story. Every line that matters is your own comment or your function name, so there is nothing to make up.

Play it or read it

  • Play steps through the walkthrough for you; pause on any step.
  • Read shows the whole area at once, to scan at your own pace.
  • Each area has a code story and a test story, so you can see what is tested too.
  • Move between parts of your app from the breadcrumb at the top.

Health at a glance

Each area shows a status from your real scan findings, so you can see at a glance whether checkout or billing needs attention. Comments are never judged: they are shown as written, with no score and no warnings of their own.

What changed since the last scan

Every scan saves the story. The next one marks steps that are new, so after a long session with your AI tool you get a plain-English view of what it actually changed.

Vibe Story and Vibe X-Ray

They read the same code. Vibe X-Ray is the map you explore yourself: modules, files, functions and connections, for people who read code. Vibe Story plays your app back to you in plain English, for people who would rather not. You can switch between them at any time.

Languages

TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, Java, Rust, C#, Kotlin, Ruby, PHP, Swift, C, C++, Scala, Elixir and Lua. Some languages carry more comments than others, so how many steps come from your own words varies; the walkthrough plays either way.

Who it is for

  • Vibe coders who built with Cursor, Bolt, Lovable or Claude Code and never read the result.
  • Founders who need to explain how their product works before someone technical asks.
  • Anyone taking over an AI-generated codebase, or handing one to a collaborator.

FAQ

Does Vibe Story use AI to write the story?

No. Every line of substance is a comment from your code or a readable version of a function name. Vibe Story only adds the numbering and structure.

What if my code has no comments?

The walkthrough still plays. Steps without a comment use the function name in plain words and are labelled that way.

How is Vibe Story different from Vibe X-Ray?

Vibe X-Ray is a map you explore yourself. Vibe Story plays your app back to you in plain English. Both come from the same scan.

Is Vibe Story free?

The first chapter is free. Paid plans open every area of your app.

Does Vibe Story keep my code?

We scan your code, then delete our copy automatically. Vibe Story keeps the comments and function names it shows.
